A cherished tradition at Murray Hill United Methodist Church.
More than 35 years ago, church member Mary Walker had a vision—to create a welcoming space where older adults could come together for meaningful connection, spiritual enrichment, and joyful fellowship. From that vision, the Young At Heart Ministry was born, and it has been thriving ever since.
Mary’s idea was simple yet profound: gather members of the church and local community for an uplifting program, a shared meal, and the joy of each other’s company. From the very beginning, she set a clear and lasting standard—the programs had to be educational, spiritual, and entertaining. That foundation still guides us today.
What began with a modest lunch and a handful of participants has grown into a vibrant monthly gathering, complete with a generous buffet of covered dishes. Attendees enjoy a wide variety of homemade salads, vegetables, specialty dishes, fruits, and desserts—all lovingly prepared and shared—along with a $3.00 main entrée. It’s a true feast for both body and soul.
Our programs have become as diverse as our attendees, featuring guest speakers and presentations that touch on nearly every area of interest. From historical insights and current events to music, ministry, military service, and even a bit of whimsy, each month offers something new, inspiring, and engaging. The Young At Heart Ministry remains a cornerstone of connection and care in our church—celebrating faith, fellowship, and the joy of lifelong learning.
